What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, also known as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, is a treatment for psychological conditions such as depression, anxiety and PTSD, as well as relationship difficulties.
The treatment explores the root causes underlying these issues. This is done by looking at current life problems, as well as exploring difficulties with thinking, and acknowledging and containing feelings.
Exploring the ways in which psychological distress can be linked to past formative experiences, and to experiences in the relationship with the therapist, deepens understanding and can effect real change.

Therapists
Dr Pauline Schokman is a General Medical Practitioner and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with many years experience in General Practice before she trained in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (VAPP) in the 1990s. She treats adults in individual therapy. She is a member of the VAPP, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
Dr Laurie West is a General Medical Practitioner and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. He completed the VAPP training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy two decades ago. He is a member the VAPP, the RACGP and the AMA.
